More about this coffee and its origins
The Inkingi washing station is one of the Gashuru coffee farms, located on the shores of Lake Kivu near Rwanda’s Nyungwe National Park. This farm was established in 1973 with an initial planting of 380 coffee trees, which - along with the plot of land - were purchased by the owner Celestin with the proceeds from three years’ work as a housekeeper. Inkingi means ‘pillar’ in the Kinyarwanda language, and this represents the values of the collective. The Gasharu Women’s Community and Welfare Group aim to establish a sustainable business model – one which provides daycare and basic healthcare, as well as strengthening a sense of togetherness and community. |
